Friday Poem

In preparation for a family poetry workshop, I have been reading a lot of children's poetry and poetry written by kids. In the simplicity of their words, I am reminded of the essence of poetry and that we are all poets.

Chasing the Light

If I were a moth
I'd fly to the light
that I see within you.
It's the only light
I know that
will never singe
my delicate wings.

Friday Original Poem

A couple of weeks ago I posted a poem by Patricia Fargnoli. I have been writing aversion of her poem every day for the last few weeks.

Here is just one of my rough drafts:

Invocation

You came to me between the layers of turquoise
stacked on top of the pink sandstone.
You came to me in the goldfinch feather
she carried in her small hands and then
as the kingfisher feather she called chickadee.

You came as the full moon
that wakes me through out the night.
And the lucid dreams beneather wave laps,
whispers of those past beyond.

You came as the first ripe tomato.
The one we sliced and shared,
eyes closed.

You came because I needed the fullness of summer. Because my skin needed warmth.

You came though I had asked for nothing because I wasn't full as a river at full tide.

Small Things to Celebrate

This week I(Regina) am returning the favor for Juliet as she recovers from the flu and sharing a few of my small things to celebrate.

1. Snowday on Monday enables the whole family a day to get used to the time change.

2. Completed some new poems for upcoming poetry reading and made a flyer for it.

 3. Basked in some sunshine, two days in a row and the 6 foot snowdrift outside our backdoor has shrunk a few inches at least.

Happy Friday!
