A to Z Challenge

For the A-Z challenge, we decided to post a new and original poem every day. Today, Regina is taking one day at a time with the letter "D".

10 Days at the Convent
Day #2 : Blessing of the Blizzard

Perched Jesus stares
Over distant roads
Hushed
City buzz
Paused in storm

Beneath great pine drapes
I take blizzard wind’s advice
Stay still

Long enough
For eyelashes to fill
With snowflakes
And cheeks to burn

Follow the Juncos
Through knee-deep snow
Past an effigy
Of Francis praying

To a silent river of white
Where birds gather
Frozen berry feast
Winter’s bounty

Listen
With only nature’s whisper
In your ear

And find peace.

  4. So full of calm. One must drink a cup of honey-laced tea with this one.

  7. I have found that peace here in the canyon, much by letting nature whisper in my ear. I can relate so to this poem, thank you.

  8. I can completely picture the peacefulness of that winter scene, right down to the red berries in the snow.

  9. Great poem. I often find inner peace in nature, which is why I love National Parks.

  15. I like the "frozen berry feast." The birds around here didn't get theirs this winter, thanks to a pretty wacky weather year. I recently found your blog thanks to the A to Z Challenge, and am really enjoying the imagery in your poetry--it just clicks for me, which is nice, because I often struggle to interpret poems. To enable some of my readers to find and enjoy your site as well, I have nominated you for the Liebster Award on my own blog http://thingsiseeandknow.wordpress.com/2013/04/03/

  16. Beautiful! I especially enjoyed this verse it really stood out in my mind for some reason:

    "Long enough
    For eyelashes to fill
    With snowflakes
    And cheeks to burn"

  17. I love the image of snowflakes on eyelashes. They have often been MY eyelashes. Lovely, lovely poem. May peace surround you always.

  18. Beautiful poem. I immediately thought of a spiritual-silent retreat my former job used to go on in Germantown, Maryland. Very peaceful, silent, and very relaxing...just like your poem. Great post!
