A to Z Challenge

The letter "E"

Today's poem is an ode to Emily Dickinson's "The Soul Has Bandaged Moments"

In those bandaged moments,
Where the edges of life are bright with promise,
Pink inflamed with joy.

That’s where I want to live.
Not in my wallowing,
Days that drag,

So low that,
Finding the right thoroughfare,
Seems intolerable.

That’s when I need,
Words and stories,
The mantle of other's triumphs,
To activate an explosive dance.
And remind that,
I carry within myself,
A custom-made first aid kit.

  6. what a lovely ode to Dickinson. I was always fascinated by her solitary ways, especially as I went to college at Amherst, the town she lived in. I think I could easily follow her footsteps and never leave my writing room:) thanks for coming by my blog. Now I better get on to that E myself!

    1. It's funny, Gina and I were talking about how some of the poems we composed were cheerful and others very deep. Sunday's poem is downright silly.

  13. The poem is great but what I'm going to do right now is try to jump like that. It looks like fun and kind of liberating.

  20. Beautiful! Soothe yourself with words. Sometimes those down days make us more appreciative of the up ones, so we need to put them in their proper place & not let them drag us down.

This poem is kinda like it's own "custom-made first-aid kit" for blog-reading burnout.
