For the A-Z challenge, we decided to post a new and original poem every day. Today, Regina has the letter "F".
Fool's Day
April first seated in an
audience of fools,
he interrupts to introduce
her.
And I watch student
surpass mentor,
the way child
often exceeds parent.
At sixteen, Muse
provides no light
in my dark.
But still does for him.
She is promise,
in skin tight jeans
and worn
Chuck Taylor's.
Eloquent, slim,
beautiful with Daddy issues.
Enough accomplishments
for old bloods to drink
hers.
Fountain of Youth
reflecting her own mother's
years of single
mother-dom,
3 kids in.
This is great! I love the phrase 'She is promise, in skin tight jeans and worn Chuck Taylor's' - says so much so beautifully. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading, Sarah.
DeleteSad poem - despite her promise I feel the eyes of the those old bloods on her and the pain in the way she's applied those jeans. Am I over-identifying?
ReplyDeleteNot over-identifying at all. It was a sad and beautiful thing to witness. It was apparent that even though she was so young and talented she was headed for her mother's fate. It was heart-breaking beauty.
DeleteThank you again, Gina. That's a lot to think about.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading, Ann.
DeleteAs I read it, I was pretty sure she wouldn't fulfill that early promise. Reading your reply to the comment above, I agree it is sad and heartbreaking, yet the beauty is there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by today, Inger.
DeleteIt is a sad poem today, It is hard to watch those who don't fulfill their promise.
