Sunday Reading Suggestion

I hate short stories.  Just as you start to connect to a character and plot, the story ends - usually abruptly. When I pick up a new book, it's always a novel, the fatter the better.  It makes sense then that The Twelve Tribes of Hattie didn't work for me.  The structure of the novel is short chapters that highlight the experiences of each of Hattie's children.  And there weren't many plot lines that intersected, with the exception of Hattie herself.  Yes, the historical fiction aspects of the book are important.  And the subordination that each of the characters grapple with are independently interesting but because they are only glimpses, the novel doesn't satisfy.

I have to give this one a thumbs down.  But if you like short stories, it could work for you.
