Staying Motivated

Some days you'd rather pull the covers up over your head and go back to bed. I am having one of those kind on Mondays. So how do you stay motivated? I'm going to read some poetry and try to start this week anew.

Why I Wake Early
by Mary Oliver

Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who make the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and crotchety–
best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light–
good morning, good morning, good morning.
Watch, now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.

  1. Thanks, Gina. My Monday could use a boost too.

  2. Beautiful poem, but not the way I start each morning. I'm a snuggle-back-under-the-covers girl. I don't seek out the morning, but wait for it to come & drag me out.

  3. A thought from a non-morning person: I'll have to take your word for it!!

  4. I want to read that one every day!
