Spring Joy
Widows of fall discarded and
oppressed by winter's icy slumber.
Bland browns, faint yellows
washed-out reds,
not sought after by
lovers, painters
or collectors.
Dry, brittle leaves decomposing
to create the stench of
spring's compost.
Once late September's crown jewels
now forest floor litter
where wild green chives
poke through taunting me
with the taste of rebirth.
