Thursday and Friday

Hey!

WORKSHOP

It's been a busy week but I am excited to have been granted a scholarship to The Op Ed Project's Chicago Seminar tomorrow.  The mission behind this is to "increase the range of voices and quality of ideas we hear in the world."

After the workshop, I plan to write and submit my first op ed on the subject of dress codes!

PLAY

Meanwhile, my new play Affluenza had it's first table read this week and it went pretty well.  We crammed about fourteen actors around three tables and I got a lot of great feedback both about the structure of the story and the topic of race as it effects teens in Evanston, IL.  It's really exciting to delve into revisions now that the play has been reviewed by the experts!

EARLY READER

Carrie Goldman and I are reaching the homestretch on revisions to a new early reader on adoption and the struggle for a sense of belonging.  Carrie is an adoptive parent and author of the critically acclaimed book, Bullied.

Whew.
I need a nap.

    1. Thanks, Cynthia. It's about the disparity of punishment and life choices that race imposes on boys.

  3. Thanks, it was interesting. I'm definitely going to write an op ed or ten on the dress code thing but I was going to do that before the workshop. Hopefully, I learned a few things to make the writing stronger.
