Friday Original Poem

A Gift Before the Day Begins

Today we walked in the morning dark
Still cool before the humid daylight
Your dog peed twenty-four times
And we circled the park twice
Passing a face-down grandmother
Middle-aged people like us exercising their over-fed bodies
Invisible skunk
Mushroom fountain
We chat cheerfully about the people whose faces we’d like to rip off
Hug

And finally, the day
